  2. Last week……. Introduced the “Individual Project” RECAP Your individual project is a written assignment which allows you to develop your research, analysis and presentation skills.You will choose a titlePlan your researchCarry out the researchWrite up your findings

  5. What is research and why do we do it? What? Research can be information in many different forms. Facts, figures, maps, quotes, images etc Why? To get answers to questions To increase our understanding To learn more about something

  8. What does all this research mean? No 3 Thinking carefully and critically about what the research is telling you

  11. Whether you have collected the information yourself in a survey ... Your research should always have these qualities RURU ...or whether it’s information that already exists on the Internet Checking for RURU will save you time later

  13. Effective Searching Follow the tips below to improve your search results. A phrase or words that appear together in quotation marks will reduce the number of random websites and make the search more focused. “????” Eliminating non-essential words will improve the quality of your searches. What is the average number of beauty salons in Mold? Should be Number beauty salons Mold

  14. Effective Searching • More than one key word • Use the + sign to search for web pages with more than one key word. Adding a plus to your search will ensure that all your results include the key words. • For example, if you wanted to find out about recycling paper in Cardiff, you can improve your search by typing: • Recycling+Cardiff+paper • Removing words • Include a - (minus sign) against words you don't want included in search results • Put a - sign in front of any words that you don't want to be included in your search results.

  19. Reliable If you’re not certain if information is reliable, you can check it in other places to see if the information matches.

  20. Up to date No information should be more that 3 years old. Unless you are showing a trend over time e.g. change in teenage pregnancies over the last 20 years.

  21. Relevant Stick to your areas of focus when researching. Make sure the information is related to your title.

  22. Useful Look for information that you can read and understand Check with your teacher if information seems too complex – they may be able to help you look at it in a different way. Make sure the research contributes to the story you are trying to tell!

  27. How to save your websites…. Favourites Don't risk losing the web address of a really useful website. If you find a useful website, make sure you add it to your list of favourites. To do this: • click the Favourites button at the top of your browser • select Add to favourites • choose the folder you want to save the page to

From this you are going to choose one area to base your research on for the next couple of lessons. • Open a the word document • “Lesson 2: Skill Building- Secondary Research” • located in • Stresources – Welsh Bacc – Welsh Bacc Year 11 – Individual Project • Save the document in the secondary research folder in your year 11 Welsh Bacc folder

Collecting Research Piece No 1 This page • With your teacher you are going to start to practice finding and writing up your research using the RURU rules over the next couple of lessons • First – collecting your research • Now you are tasked to look at any secondary sources to help with your research areas. • Complete the RURU section of the booklet for each research topic
