  1. UNDERSTANDING DRUG ABUSE A short guide to understand what causes addiction and the problems surrounding it

  2. What Is Drug Abuse? Someone who: • Has a high tolerance for a particular substance • Has been ingesting this substance for some time now • Has changed and moulded his lifestyle around the drugs and its usage.

  3. Who Can Get Addicted To Drugs? The truth is, anyone can get addicted to anything. It is basic human nature to be attracted to an act enough to make it a habit. People who do drugs come from all wakes of life. Your environment contributes as to whether you will use drug or not but there are other factors as well.

  4. What Are The Behavioral Patterns Of Addicts? Addicts tend to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible. But their life, sooner than later, starts to revolve around the drug to the point where even when not doing the drug they are thinking about how they will do it the next time. Because of this shift of priorities, other important responsibilities are shirked from. This causes a lack of motivation to perform normal everyday tasks too.

  5. What Are The Behavioral Patterns Of Addicts? They will start spiraling out of control and will make life threatening decisions just to get their fix. At this stage, people close to the addict will also start to feel the change in the addict and will cut off themselves. This further leads to self-harm and isolation making the situation even worse for the addict. And while all this is happening, the addict will still be in denial of his habits and will act as if nothing is wrong.

  6. What Happens Next? If such a low point is reached in the addict’s life, then the only place to go is either jail or rehab. Jail is never a positive experience and will only cause further harm to his sanity. The best option is to go to rehabilitation and be put under proper medical care and attention. Many people have surrounded rehab in the taboo category but that is not the case. Rehabilitation is a fantastic way on getting back on track and ensuring that the person has another shot at life and at the pursuit of happiness.

  7. What To Do If Someone You Know Is An Addict? The most important thing to note is that addicts have a very volatile temperament and you need to be extremely cautious with how you deal with him/her. The wrong tone or wording can create a scene so it is best if you declare yourself as an ally first before you discuss anything. You alone can not accomplish anything if the situation has reached a certain point. If you really care about that person’s future, you need to get professional help immediately. Only then can the addict be given the right care and treatment which is essential for recovery and recuperation.
