  2. Development • Infants/Children-Testes may not descend until early infancy. Separation of prepuce from glans may not occur until age 4. • Adolescents-Pubic hair and scrotum enlarges and darkens. Prostate and penis both enlarge. • Elderly-Pubic hair . Sperm still produced, but viability may . Ejac. Vol. may  increase, erection and orgasm 

  3. Normal variations • Children • penis/scrotum size variation, • edema in scrotum of newborn, • non-descended testicle, • transient erections, • foreskin non-retractable

  4. Adults/Older Adults • Dorsal vein apparent • Lumps in scrotal skin • Color variation in scrotum, pubic hair • Elderly-more pendulous scrotum (gravity?) • Thinning of pubic hair in old age

  5. Common Concerns • Children-hygiene related rashes, burning at urethral meatus, self - exploration • Adolescents-Nocturnal ejaculation, sexual desires and experimentation, lumps... • Adults-Infertility, hernias, discharge, erectile dysfx, lumps in groin or testes • Elderly-Erectile dysfx, prostate problems

Recommendations... • Kids-Educate about hygiene and normal anatomical changes • Adolescents-Educate “ anatomy, function, etc”, educate/ask about STDs • Adults-Educate about natural fertility boosters, or natural pregnancy prevention strategies, assess for cancer risks/signs, encourage regular self exam

  7. Recommendations -cont... • Elderly- Educate about: • normal aging changes, • risks/signs of prostate CA, Colon CA, etc. • erectile dysfx causes, and • medication use/side effects.

  8. More Serious Concerns • Children • hernias, • hydrocele, • penile enlargement (w/o testicular enlargement), • epispadius (may need to be repaired)

  9. Adults • Balanopsothosis • Balanitis • Penile discharge • Lesions on penis, glans, etc (STDs) • Priapism • Irreg testes or vas deferens texture
