Allergen Allergen- -Free Food: Consumers Feel Free Food: Consumers Feel Underserved Underserved Billions of people around the world suffer from food allergies and avoid allergens while shopping for food and beverages. As the number of children with food allergies is growing, the demand for allergen-free food is expected to increase manifold. The rise has been witnessed among younger children, in both developing and developed countries. Major food allergens fall into eight categories: egg, fish, dairy, tree nuts, crustacean shellfish, wheat, peanuts, and soybean. Whether people are shopping for themselves or for someone who is allergic to a particular food, they try to avoid buying items containing allergens. Obviously, it causes a lot of stress in the grocery store. Consumers have to spend a lot of time reading labels and avoiding a whole range of products. Sometimes, they have to avoid entire categories of products. They may also have to pay extra attention to the highest-quality ingredients. In this process, sometimes, smaller brands win the race while the larger ones have to face rejection. This is also because consumers look for new products that can provide them allergen friendly options and treat their taste buds in a better way. Consumers do feel that the ingredient list is often not very clear that leave them confused, ultimately causing them to leave the product. Even if they end up buying, the fear of allergic reactions keeps them from using it. Food manufacturers have a better scope of serving those careful shoppers and provide them better options to improve their lives. Also, they agree on clearer labeling, consistent listing along with the need to customer engagement and

Fortunately, manufacturers are taking steps to meet the special food needs of consumers and win their loyalty by improving their shopping and dining experiences with safer options. Consumers allergic to certain foods desire for simple, less processed and natural food products that are free from allergens. They want clean label foods, free from major allergens and other attributes. And now, they are able to find food options that are healthy and delicious too. There are several options to cater to the special needs of allergic consumers: dairy- free products made from all natural ingredients, wholesome yoghurt free from milk, plant based protein, fruit based sugar and many more. Allergen friendly food has become a reality to cater to the demands of consumers. There are healthy options, with clear ingredient listing and no misleading claims.
