  1. Creating an Allergen-Free Bedroom Allergens are one of the main causes for a bad night’s sleep and given the amount of time that we spend sleeping (or should do anyway) - it’s important to ensure that we have healthy, allergen-free rooms to improve the quality of our sleep. Identifying what your allergies are is the first step in getting rid of them. Once you find out what you are reacting to, you will be able to change your room around to eliminate the problem; whether that is getting a wool underlay, a king single woollen underlay, a humidifier or de-cluttering your bedroom. Here are the most likely causes of allergies and how you can get rid of them to improve the quality of your sleep: Dust mites If you have a dust mite allergy, then you are likely to experience the following symptoms (which are worsened when making the bed and disturbing the mites): Nasal congestion and a runny nose Wheezing and coughing Shortness of breath Sinusitis Worsened eczema and dermatitis Luckily, there are tons of chemical-free ways to get rid of dust mite in your home before you take the serious route. You can: De-clutter your room, which reduces the places that dust mites hide and makes it easy for you to clean. Dust mite proof bedding is tightly woven and will stop them getting into your pillow, mattresses and duvet covers. Wash linen in a hot (60+) wash once a week. Ventilate your room and your bedding to get rid of humidity and moisture. Use an air purifier that removes airborne dust mite and practice a thorough cleaning regimen like vacuuming regularly.

  2. Pet allergens The number of people that have pet allergies is astounding, but luckily it’s also one of the easiest allergies to identify. Unfortunately it means that you are going to have to try and keep pets out of your bedroom, which we know is easier said than done. They tend to already carry allergens, as well as pick them up on their wanderings throughout the day. If you can’t keep your pets out the rooms, then change your bedding regularly, use an allergen equipped vacuum cleaner and think about investing in an air purifier. Mould allergies Most people are simply unaware of the implications that mould can have on their health. Damp and mouldy bathrooms are a serious health hazard and can have really bad effects on the lungs and respiratory system. This is what you can do to get mould and damp out of your bedroom: Invest in bedding such as a wool underlay, or a king single woollen underlay, that is hypoallergenic and is also able to mitigate the invasion of mould and damp into the bed. Use a dehumidifier to keep the humidity in the air low Use homemade cleaner or get professionals in to deal with any obvious mould or damp within the bathroom and ask how you can fix the problem to avoid future issues. These are just some of the allergens that can cause you to have a bad night’s sleep, and by eliminating them from your bedroom - you are ensuring that you get a much healthier, and higher quality sleep than you were before.
