    2. The Danish Phase If you recall….. In Bohemia, the Catholic forces defeated the Protestants The Spanish gained control of the western part of the Palatinate Bohemia was declared a Catholic province

    3. The Danish Phase Now let’s go to Denmark and Norway…. King Christian IV (Lutheran) joined the Protestant cause and brought an army into northern Germany (he really just wanted the land for himself)

    4. The Danish Phase King Christian made an alliance with the United Provinces (northern Netherlands) and England They invaded northern Germany

    5. The Danish Phase King Christian’s forces were defeated in 1626 by Count Tilly (Catholic) 1627 K.C. was defeated by Wallenstein (Catholic)

    6. The Danish Phase Good riddance to Wallenstein His troops pillaged and plundered all villages they traveled through

    7. The Danish Phase By 1629 King Christian IV withdraws from the war Catholics occupied Denmark and major northern German ports (like Hamburg)

    8. The Danish Phase What does this mean? Wallenstein (Catholic) controlled northern Germany and 3 Baltic ports (Hamburg, Lubeck, Bremen) No more Danish supremacy
