  1. This IVF guide details the process that proceeds forward from the conclusion of all your diagnostic testing which is followed by your physician devising a treatment protocol designed specifically to address your needs. Once you and your doctor have agreed upon a treatment plan, the following steps will be followed. ● You will be asked to wait for your next menstrual period to begin. ● Once the nurse has been contacted about the above, you will be provided with a calendar containing tentative dates to begin the IVF cycle timeline ● You will be administered one cycle of birth control pills during the period preceding the beginning of the IVF cycle. This reduces the possibility of developing cysts that will interfere with your body’s response to the medication and facilitates the production of a healthier batch of follicles inside the stimulated ovaries. ● Once the baseline has been determined at the beginning of the IVF cycle, the next step entails the administration of stimulation medication for an average of 8 to 12 days, a period which also involves undergoing blood work and transvaginal sonograms five to six times to monitor your response to the medication. ● When the doctors find it appropriate to schedule the retrieval, a trigger injection is prescribed in preparation for the retrieval two days later.

  2. ● Once you arrive at the clinic on the day of the egg retrieval, you will have a consultation with the anesthesiologist and the fertility doctor who will then proceed to administer an IV. ● The retrieval of the eggs commences once you have been sedated and are sleeping comfortably in a process that takes around 20 to 30 minutes to complete during which the physician will insert an ultrasound probe to visualize the ovaries. With a needle attached to the probe, the back wall of your vagina is breached in a way that positions it right next to the ovary. The doctor will carry out the puncturing of each follicle to withdraw the contained fluid from inside which contains the egg. ● A sample of the sperm from the male partner will need to be collected the same day as egg retrieval. ● On the day of the embryo transfer, a catheter is inserted through the cervix and the embryo is placed into the top section of the uterus in a procedure that is guided by ultrasound and takes 5 to 10 minutes on average.
