Sometimes it is possible that due to severe male infertility the sperms may not be able to penetrate the eggs. In such cases, each egg is picked up (with a pipette) and injected into a single sperm manually. This procedure is called Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). This is not common but is important to know every single step involved in a holistic understanding of the process. In case there are usable spare eggs, they are frozen to be used if required in future.
