International Research Ethics Education & Curriculum Development Award • Request for Applications for 2008 awards • Up to $250,0000 per year for 4 years • 2 year planning grants for developing country applicants $25,000/year • NIH electronic grant submission & registration- start early! • Encourage programs focused on Franco- & Lusophone Africa, India, China, Thailand, Latin America, Russia & E. Europe

International Research Ethics Training Program Objectives • Develop relevant curriculum • Train developing country professionals • Didactic knowledge- masters level • Practical skills • Design courses/teach • Run IRBs/review research protocols • Conduct ethics research • Write guidelines, papers

  4. Typical Training Model • 1 or 2 year masters or certificate • Foundational philosophy & bioethics • Research ethics & international guidelines • Practical skills • Research methodology • Ethics writing skills • Curriculum development, case studies & teaching • IRB experience • In-country Project • IRB analysis & training • Teaching • National guidelines & review process • Research in ethics related to humans subjects in research
