Due to their phenomenal growth (over 600 restaurants) and the turnover inherent in the fast-paced restaurant business, Chilis Restaurants always needs to hire great managers and lots of talented young people want to work at Chilis.
To process the thousands of motivated respondents, Chilis needed a quick way to sort through the haystack of resumes and get to the top talent fast. Also, Chilis recruiters don’t sit in a regional office connected to the internet with a high speed line. They spend lots of time on the road visiting restaurants, traveling their region (which often covers several states).
A staffing consultant from Behavior Description Technologies worked with Paul Dykstra and Warren Boone from Chilis to create and refine viability screening questions, culture fit questions, and past performance questions that sort out the pretenders from the performers.
The IT team from BDT added E.ssessor functionality for emailing Talent Summaries to the right recruiter, including action links so they could review and decide on the majority of their respondents from within their email preview window, whether they were on or offline at the time. They also added functions to:  treat passive or urgent candidates with greater speed and care,  communicate either individually or in selected groupings to candidates via email, and  confirm the past performance claims of candidates via auto-email.
Chilis recruiters are three times more effective, according to Warren. Travel costs have decreased and the improved quality of new hires translates into faster training and performance ramp times for new Chilis managers.
Candidates reported that E.ssessor was less difficult and stressful, more complete, and they felt more positive towards Chilis as the result of their E.ssessor experience.
