  3. What is chunking? • procedure of breaking up reading material into manageablesections • the harder the text, the smaller the chunks

  4. How? (hop pg. 26) • Read a small section, then to check your comprehension:

How… ? • If they can do at least one - continue reading next chunk • If they can’t do any - reread • with a purpose in mind • doing the same as before won’t work • Great for study groups • Each person is responsible for reading one chunk and summarizing it for the rest of the group • Everyone learns the main points from every chunk, but only reads and summarizes one part.

  8. What is annotating? • learning what the book teaches by • marking a book/text in an “intelligent way” • using symbols, lines, numbers, shapes… to mark important text features • creating a “trail” • having a “conversation” with the text
