  3. Research Purposes Conducted by Penghu County Service Center of New Residents in Taiwan New residents ( known as Foreign Spouses) from May to July 2011 to understand the new residents’ perceptions of local communities

  4. Penghu—the only one island county in Taiwan

  5. Definition- ”Perceptions” • Including 4 components: (1)The perception of community environment. (2)The interaction with community residents. (3)The acceptance of multi-culture among community residents. (4)The perception of community activities.

  6. Methods • quantitative research • questionnaires survey • Sampling by percentage of population • 250 new residences • through five rural areas and one city in whole Penghu County • Data analysis with SPSS.

  11. F=7.704, P=0.004 the perceptions of local communities(Including 4 components) New Residents’ living areas (Including 6 areas)

  12. better interaction between New Residents and community residents better New Residents’ perceptions of the community environment higher level of community acceptance for cultural diversity

  13. To set up an accessible local-helpers network to support the New Residents is the most important thing in the future.
