  3. His YouthGenesis 25 - 27 • Mama’s boy • Ripped off his brother’s birthright! • Deceived Isaac - his father • Covenant passed on to Jacob - Gen. 27: 27 - 29 • Ran for his life to his uncle Laban’s home

  4. The Adventure Begins! A Dream: Jacob’s Ladder (Gen. 28: 10 - 22) God Affirms His Covenant with Jacob: Canaan is Jacob’s, Jacob will have many descendants, and all generations will be blessed through his family line (bloodline). (Genesis 28: 13 - 15) Jacob sets up an altar and calls the place Bethel - House of God.

  5. The Adventure Continues: Meets Uncle Laban and “reaps what he sowed” (Gen. 29:18 - 30)…wants Rachel - gets Leah! Jacob’s twelve sons: Leah has: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, & Judah Bilhah has: Dan and Naphtali Zilpah has: Gad and Asher Leah has: Issachar, Zebulum, and Dinah Rachel has: Joseph and 10 - 15 yrs later she dies having Benjamin.

  6. Time to Return Home:Genesis 32: 1 - 30 Time to meet Esau - his brother His night alone (Gen. 32: 24) He wrestles with God all night! (32:24) God asks, “What is your name?” (32:27) Jacob says, “My name is Jacob.” - confession God said, “No longer Jacob, but Israel because you have struggled [wrestled] with God.” (28) - repentance and conversion.

  7. Jacob’s Last YearsGenesis 48 - 50 Jacob’s son Joseph saves all of their lives from dying in the 7 year famine. Everyone is reunited and moves to Egypt. Jacob’s final blessings: 3 Interesting things in the Blessings: Levi’s land inheritance taken away, The land is given to Joseph’s two sons (Ephraim and Manasseh), and Judah - Leah’s son: is the next Covenant holder. (Gen. 49: 8 - 12)

The Redline Covenant FulfilledGenesis 49: 8 - 12 Two things concluded: • God kept His Word - it is through the Lion of Judah, Jesus Christ - He Who was, Is, and Is to come has blessed all of mankind. • Jacob the Deceiver became Israel the one who wrestled with God. II Corinthians 5: 17 - What is your name now? And Who will you be in 2007?
