RESUME • Summary of UK position in the approach to 2005, an important year • upcoming leadership of G8 and the EU • importance of Global Climate Change especially engagement of Emerging Market Economies • definition of UK CAT strategy and importance of collaboration - within UK, within Europe and in full international arena • Update on EC/EU position and strategies being developed elsewhere in the world

MAJOR OUTCOMES • Key Points • essential for UK to finalise its strategy towards clean use of fossil fuels and so form the basis of DTI work in this area • carbon abatement of fossil fuels will be a critical issue in the transition to a sustainable energy future. • UK developments need to be done against an international backdrop and should involve collaborative activities • opportunity to get a critical mass European initiative underway with UK in one of lead positions • successful deployment of technology essential in an ever increasingly competitive and risk adverse marketplace • need for consistent policy to give industry confidence to invest

  4. OUTPUT OF FORUM • Contribution to the debate on Carbon Abatement for fossil fuels, just at a time when UK is defining its strategy and about to take lead of G8 and of the EU • Presentations will go onto the APGTF Website • www.apgtf-uk.com
