  1. Inductive Bible StudyMethodHow do you study the Word of God?

  2. To begin you will need a tablet and pen to record your observations. Having a Bible dictionary and a concordance close by may be helpful as well. Then pray, asking for Holy Spirit illumination. Now I will briefly tell you what we had to do: 1. Read the entire book through two times, one time out loud. 2. Notice: Who is speaking? To whom? What? Why?3. Divide the book into sections by topics.4. Give each section a title that reflects the subject. 5. Notice the word pictures, if any. Write them down.6. Notice the frequently used words. Write them down. 7. Note the key verse. The section will be summed up in the key verse.8. How does this all fit together? 9. What does this say about God? His person? his nature? His will for us?

  11. Who is the author of the passage? Who is the author addressing? (God’s People, a specific church, Unbelievers) What are the main verbs? What is the verb tense? Are there terms you need to define so you can better understand the passage? OBSERVATION
  12. OBSERVATION What do you already know about the people and places mentioned? Can you identify any cause/effect relationships in the author’s writing? What things in this passage might you want to study in further detail?
  13. Step One: Grasp the text in their town. What did the text mean to the original audience? Step Two: Measure the width of the river to cross. What are the differences between the biblical audience and us? Factors to consider:- Culture Language Time Situation Covenant
  14. Step Three: Cross the theological bridge. What is the theological principle in this text? Criteria for formulating theology principles within the text. 1. The principle should be reflected in the text. 2. The principle should be timeless and not tied to a specific situation. INTREPRETATION

The teaching should correspond to the teaching of the rest of scripture. 5. The principle should be relevant to both the biblical and the contemporary audience. INTREPRETATION
