  5. 25% of our class cheers for the Auburn Tigers Noah, Xander, Elizabeth, Maddie, and Ms. Wolfe!!! War Eagle!

  6. But Most of the class cheers for Alabama!! William, Fallyn, Lexie, Makenzie, Savannah, Kylee, Caroline, Moriah, Ellie, Nick, Carson, Aidan, Gabriel, and Gavin

  7. 100% of us are Practically Perfect in every way!

  8. Let’s take a look and find out. What’s a typical day for the Monsterous Minds?

  9. Of course, FOOD is very important! We start the day by making a lunch choice.

  10. Next, we copy our homework.

  11. We listen to announcements and say the pledge.

  12. Next, we do our morning work… WE WRITE IN OUR JOURNALS OR DAILY LANGUAGE AND DAILY MATH.

  13. Every other day we have a special at 8:30 Computer, Library Or counselor Art, or Music

  14. P.E. is at 9:05.

  15. Snack time! Now that we are DYING of starvation….We have snack. Don’t worry, though. We multi-task.

  16. Then we start reading.

  18. Accelerated ReaderHow to pick “Just Right Books” Your child’s STAR test score (range) is on the handout. • We tested to find out what books are “just right” for your child. Here are some other ways to tell.

  19. What is Raz- Kids? • RAZ = Reading A to Z • Software that enables children to read books on-line and take computer generated tests. • Books can be read at home on-line and tests can be taken at home on-line. • User name is in front of the agenda.

  20. Reading FluencyWhat is it and how can it improve? Your child’s DIBELS score is also on the handout. • We tested to find out your child’s oral reading fluency. The chart on the handout explains percentiles. Benchmark is the 40th percentile. Of course, we want to aim higher.

  24. 12:45….Lunch -the 2nd best time of the day! Parent Reservation Required: Sign Up Genius for Lunch *Ice-cream sold every Wednesday. *Slushies sold Tuesdays and Thursdays. Water is available every day for an additional charge. *Remember, no canned drinks or food in fast food bags. *Be courteous and refrain from sitting at the food allergy table

  27. Then, it’s science time where we work with our friends to gain and use new knowledge.

Now it’s time to talk about the best time of the week,,,,Count Me In • First, it’s “Caught Being Good” Drawing Time. • Your name goes into the “pot” as many times as the number of compliments you got during the week. • You can earn compliments by standing quietly in the hall, listening carefully and following directions in class, or being the only person doing the right thing at any particular time!. • We draw for various items in the treasure box. • Next week, we get a fresh start. • Then we do the “Count Me In Time” activity.

  32. How do we grade? Grading Scale –We will be reporting grades 3 times, or in TRIMESTERS. Grade will be either a 4, 3, 2, 1 Most work this time of year will get no higher than a 2 or 3, even if it is a perfect 100%. Standards are based on the END OF YEAR skills A 4 means child has met the END OF YEAR standards.

Graded work and homework? • Take Home/Leave home- • If something has a  or a check, and it comes home, keep it. • Tuesday Test Folder- • The checklist with papers stapled together will be placed the Tuesday Test folder. They are to be signed and returned on Wednesday. • Homework- • Usually a study guide or reading fluency passage

  34. 2nd Grade Child Find • According to the Alabama Department of Education Administrative Code, “all second-grade students will be observed as potential gifted referrals using a gifted behavior checklist provided by the State Department of Education.” The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that students from all populations and socio-economic groups, as well as students with disabilities and students who are limited-English proficient are given the opportunity to be considered for gifted services.

  35. Field trip information • October 22- Oak Mountain • December 3- Children’s Theatre and Birmingham Museum of Art • Birmingham Southern Environmental Center and Southern Museum of Flight will be sometime in the spring. • Chaperones will be announced and emailed closer to the date.

(sometimes I don’t see it until the end of the day.) Call the office for all going home messages if you haven’t heard back from me via email.

Excuses can be sent by email. Please get a doctor’s excuse anytime your child misses school for the doctor or dentist. Make-up work – please talk to your child about having missed work. It is hard to teach at this age.
