Grade 4 Grade 5 Grade 9 Grade 3 Grade 7 and 8 Secretary Personnel Division (Staff Development) Course administrator* Personnel Division (Staff Development) Administrative Secretary Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Administrative Officer Department of Land Economy Assistant Registrary Faculty of Economics Case study: Marie Butcher - Assistant Registrary 2 years 3 years 6 years 2 years 3 years Entry to Cambridge from the NHS University Official Post Titles: * - Administrator Graduated with a degree in Sociology in 1993 and started working for the NHS as a PA to a Consultant Haematologist. Centralisation and re-structuring in the NHS meant job insecurity and a job search ensued. I started work in the University as a Secretary on grade 3 and over the next 16 years moved up through most grades to grade 9. Part way through my current role I took one period of maternity leave. During my time within the HR division I studied for the Certificate in Personnel Practice, which helped me to progress further within the University to a departmental administrator role. I think I’m testimony to the opportunities that exist within the University to progress through roles if you’re prepared to embrace new (and sometimes!) daunting challenges.
