  2. What’s new? • Dentdale: A £600,000 purpose built independent living facility. Will be completed by June 2013. Operational Sept 2013. This facility half funded by ABC, half by grant. • New study programme funding gives more flexibility to design programmes around learners (section 139a pivotal to provision and funding) • Bespoke and transition packages open college programmes to non-standard applications / attendance patterns. • In negotiation with the learners lead provider.

  3. Dentdale: External

  4. Dentdale: Floor Plan

  5. Dentdale: yesterday (in fog)

  6. Opportunities Presented • Dentdale will provide enhanced opportunities for ABC curriculum (see the rest of this presentation) • BUT ABC will not register with the CQC. ABCs own residential use is covered by OFSTED care standards • Dentdale will be made available to partner organisations for their own delivery • Facilities will be made available for any appropriate organisation to provide a “learning experience”. • If these parties seek to use Dentdale to provide a residential experience that includes personal care / nursing they will need to be registered with the CQC or be a residential college. • Pricing, availability and T&Cs to be confirmed.

  10. Independence in Living • Objective: Develop independent living skills • Outcome: Independent or Sheltered Living, Social and Community Skills. • Can be combined with other streams as appropriate to the individual. • Bespoke packages can be created based on learner need (including multiple days) • Likely to be mixed ability groups, flexible attendance day • Support tailored to individual dependant on 139a and funding • Developing learners capabilities over time including some “away from home” living experience (over night)

  11. Independence in Work • Objective: Develop an understanding of and experience of employment. • Outcome: Eventual Employment (supported or independent) • Can be combined with other streams as appropriate to the individual. • Bespoke packages can be created based on learner need (including multiple days) (dependent on 139a and funding) • Likely to be mixed ability groups, flexible attendance day • A variety of sheltered / supported work experience facilitated through Dentdale. Examples of the type of experiences being considered / developed: • Recycling, Repurposing, Up-Cycling, Reclamation (House / office clearance etc) • Gardening Services (Landscaping, Conservation) • Domestic Services (Cleaning and Catering) • Packing / product assembly and marketing / customer services • Other (offsite) options to suit individual need may be possible

  12. Independence in Vocation &Independence in Study • Objective: Academic and Vocational Progression • Outcome: Access higher level learning programmes. • Both must be done to facilitate progression to higher level course. Formal qualifications are key to progression. • Also fulfils the new ‘study programme’ requirements. Hence a government expectation. • Either can be done stand alone or as part of a bespoke package (depends on 139a and funding) • Delivery tailored for ‘spikey profiles’ this will impact on the actual day of attendance.

  13. Case Studies: What can be done? • Learners seeking a transition to post school provision • Learner remains with current institution. Funding disaggregated to college. Learner joins college 1-4 days per week as negotiated. • 16-24 Learners on individualised learning programmes • Learner with lead institution (which could be the college). Funding disaggregated to college. Bespoke programme which could include attendance with college as above. • 16-24 learners seeking full time provision • Learner with college. Attends 3 or 4 days per week based on need identified in 139a. Must attend vocational and study elements. • 16-24 learners seeking part time provision • Learner with college at least 2 days per week (but this is dependant on need).
