  6. “One of the myths I want to dispel about sustainability is that we can't afford it.  That's not only wrong, it's dead wrong.  We can't afford not to do it.  One of the factors that drove us to sustainability was economics - having to do more with fewer resources.  Some up-front investment may be required, but in the long term, it will reduce our operational costs.” Mr. Tad Davis DASA-ESOH Jan 06

  7. World’s second largest company - $312B annual revenues • Sustainability Goals • Reduce fleet fuel use 25% by 2010 and 50% by 2017 - save $310M per year • Purchase all wild-caught fish from “sustainable” fisheries within 5 years • Cut energy use in 7,000 stores by 30% by 2014 • Reduce solid waste by 25% by 2014 • Successes since 2006 • Trimmed packaging to save $2.4M in shipping cost, 3800 trees, and 1 million barrels of oil per year. • Trying LED lights in refrigerated food cases to cut energy use in half • Converted one product line to organic cotton – overnight became the world’s largest buyer • Demanding “green” products from its 60,000 suppliers
