  1. Introduction The Coalition for Veterinary Pathology Fellows was established in 2004 as a partnership between the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and the Society of Toxicologic Pathology (STP) to provide a unified mechanism to solicit and allocate funds to train additional veterinary pathologists. To date, 29 Coalition training positions have been funded at 17 different North American universities; 23 Fellows have completed their Coalition training positions (Table 1) and 6 Fellows are currently enrolled in training programs (Table 2). In addition and to further enhance training in veterinary pathology, this year the Coalition is pleased to announce a new service to facilitate career advancement opportunities. This service, which will be of value to pathology trainees as well as established pathologists, is further explained below. Career Advancement Opportunities As an outcome of strategic planning and in response to comments received to a Request for Concepts, the Coalition has developed a service to facilitate five different career advancement opportunities: 1. Industrial and Governmental Internships for Post-DVM Pathology Residents 2. Industrial and Governmental Veterinary Pathology Post-Doctoral Fellowships 3. Sabbaticals for Veterinary Pathologists in Academia, Industry and Government 4. Supplemental Industrial Funding for Post-DVM PhD Pathology Graduate Research 5. Recruiting Post-DVM PhD Pathology Graduate Students for Extramurally Funded Training Positions The service is easy to use – details on how to post information using standardized forms can be found on-line at http://www.vetpathcoalition.org/opportunities. Announcements and more information will also soon appear in ACVP and STP newsletters. In many cases this service will be offered free of charge on a first-time basis, allowing users to compare results with other methods they may have used for similar purposes, or to initiate new career advancement opportunities. Sponsors To date, sponsors have contributed $6.8M in financial commitments.
