ARE YOU SELLING YOUR SOUL? MATTHEW 16:24-28. Is it possible to sell your soul?. Would someone actually sell their soul?. The answer to these questions is. YES. The thought is repulsive. Jesus says it’s a bad deal. There is no profit or advantage in doing this.

  2. Is it possible to sell your soul? Would someone actually sell their soul? The answer to these questions is YES The thought is repulsive. Jesus says it’s a bad deal. There is no profit or advantage in doing this. Some may do it without even knowing it. King Ahab was a man who sold his soul. Ahab was the most wicked king in Israel’s history. Turn in your Bibles to I Kings 21:17-26

  3. I Kings 21:20, 25 Then Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, O my enemy?'' And he answered, "I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord:” But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up. In verses 27-29 we get the idea that Ahab repented. If he had truly repented it was not long lived. How did Ahab sell his soul?

  4. His First Payment Was When He Married Jezebel. I Kings 21:25 But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up. I Kings 16:31 And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. We can never over-emphasize the importance of making the right choice when selecting a mate.

  5. As parents we need to emphasize this to our children. Pray they will make the right choice. As a young person you need to associate with the right kind of people, especially while dating. I Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals." The choice you make could be the difference between heaven and hell. In Ahab’s case it was.

  6. Ahab’s Second Payment Was When He Comprised His Religion. I Kings 16:31 He took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. I Kings 21:26 And he behaved very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites had done, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel. Ahab tried to please his wife by mixing the worship of Baal with the worship of the Lord God. But he couldn’t do both.

  7. Elijah had already told Ahab and the people of Israel to make a choice. I Kings 18:21 "How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him." And the people did not answer him a word. Joshua told the people Jesus makes it clear Joshua 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

  8. An idol is anything you allow to come between you and God. When faced with that decision Ahab lacked the strength to stay faithful to God. Many today lack the strength to stay faithful to the Lord when faced with certain situations. I Corinthians 16:13 Be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Compromising your religion, your faith, is just paying Satan another installment on your soul.

  9. Ahab’s Third Payment Was When He Coveted Material Things. In I Kings 21:1-15 we read about Naboth’s vineyard. Ahab wasn’t the last to sell his soul for materialism. Judas sold his for 30 pieces of silver, Matthew 26:14-16, 47-56; 27:3 The rich young ruler sold his and went away sorrowful when Jesus told him to sell all that he had, give it to the poor and come follow Him, then he would have treasure in heaven, Matthew 19:16-26. “He went away sorrowful for had great possessions.” The rich men of Luke 12:13-21 and 16:19-31.

  10. II Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. I Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

II Peter 3:10-11But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness? This is at least one reason Jesus asked: Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
