  4. GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL Introduction & Scripture Reading (Gen. 11:1-9) The first nine verses of Genesis 11 are very important in the Word of God. We are introduced to the first attempt at a world government without the presence of God. Genesis chapter 11 reveals to us: 1. The DEVELOPMENT of BabylonianSystem – (Gen. 11:1-9) 2. The DESTRUCTION of Babylonian System – (Rev. 17 & 18) It is a system that runs throughout the Word of God and is very much HATED by God, because it leaves Him out of the picture. (apply)

  6. GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL WHAT HAPPENED AT THE TOWER OF BABEL? After the Flood, God commanded humanity to "increase in number and fill the earth" (Genesis 8:20-9:1). Humanity decided to do the EXACTOPPOSITE: “Then they said, ‘Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth’ (Genesis 11:4). Humanity DECIDED to build a great city and a tower so they could worship the hosts of heaven – (Rom 1:18-25)

  8. THE TOWER OF BABEL WHO WAS NIMROD? Nimrod was a mighty hunter, and cunning world ruler. He was of the third generation after the flood. The success of Nimrod lead him to think he was a god, and people give him their undivided attention. He was KING of Shinar and reached his climax in the building of the Tower of Babel. Nimrod established a great empire including Babylon, Erech, Accad and Calneh. He is also associated with Asshur, Nineveh, and Assyria itself was once being mentioned as the "land of Nimrod" (Mic. 5:6).

  12. GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL NIMROD'S STRONG DESIRE FOR SUCCESS The first ambitions world LEADER after the flood was Nimrod. As a boy Nimrod must have heard the story of how God saved his grandfather Ham on the Ark. Nevertheless, Nimrod rebelled against God. Gen. 9:1 tells us “So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.

  13. GENESIS GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL NIMROD'S STRONG DESIRE FOR SUCCESS Nimrod was a great leader and instead of leading the people towards God, he brought them under his own POWER and DIRECTION. He founded the city of BABEL which became the capital of his empire. He also founded other cities, too, and became the RULER of the first empire of post-Flood history.

It possible he slew tigers and other giant animals that terrorized the people. Nimrod became famous and became both a POLITICAL and RELIGIOUS leader. His religion was the worship of FALSE GOD’S. Remember, Satan was ALIVE and WELL after the Flood – Eph. 6:10-18 Gen. 10:8-9

God put signs in the sky (Gen. 1:14), but Satan twisted all the meanings. Nimrod and his priests use the SKY knowledge for evil. They were building a tower for the purposeEVILWORSHIP.

  23. GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL Genesis 11:1-3 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. V. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. Shinar was the ancient name for the territory later known as Babylonia or Chaldea V.3 Then they said to one another, "Come, LET US make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.

It is a MAN made system (Gen 11:1-3) The phrase “LETUS” (3 times in verses 1-4) PLEASE NOTICE: Nimrod’s unity was a poor SUBSTITUTE for the unity made by Jesus Christ – (Eph. 2:13-17) They substituted BRICK for stones and ASPHALT for mortar. God uses precious STONES to build His Church - (1 Pet. 2:1-10)

It is an ECONOMICAL system (Gen 11:4) The phrase “LET US BUILD A CITY” A city is a place where people do BUSINESS, like SHOPPING, BANKING & etc. Why did Nimrod and his people build this city? 1. They built a city so they would not be SCATTERED over the earth - (Gen. 11:4a) 2. They wanted to make a NAME for themselves - (Gen. 11:4b) (This is PRIDE speaking)

GENESIS GENESIS GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL THE TOWER OF BABEL THE TOWER OF BABEL HOW HIGH WAS THE TOWER OF BABEL Herodotus of was a Greek historian who lived in the 5th century BC (c. 484 BC – c. 425 BC). He informs us that “The Tower of Babel” was a furlong, 220 yards or 660 feet, in width, and 660 feet height. It was of a pyramidical form, consisting of eight square towers, gradually decreasing in width, with a winding ascent on the outside, so very broad as to allow horses and carriages to pass each other, and even to turn. Archaeologist say the tower was probably 300 feet in height, taller than any structure built in human history until the construction of the EIFFELTOWER (1,063 feet or 324 meters) in 1889.

It is a POLITICAL system (Gen 10:10) Nimrod was a rebellious leader who DEFIED God and sought to set up his own kingdom. Scripture says in Gen 10:10 “And the beginning of his “KINGDOM” was Babel . . . .”Kingdom speaks of a political system over which Nimrod would reign. During the great tribulation the Anti-Christ will reign over a political system which will ENGULF the whole world. (Rev. 17) The Babylon of OLD and NEW will consist of an ECONOMIC, POLITICAL and RELIGIOUS systems.

  32. The system that will control the world during the tribulation will be a ECONOMIC, POLITICAL and RELIGIOUS system. The Ant-Christ will have full reign over this system, and will exercise his POWERWITHGREATFORCE.

It is a RELIGIOUS system (Gen 11:4b) Gen. 11:4b says, “Let us build a tower . . . “ This tower would be a TEMPLEwhere man could study the signs of the Zodiac for direction, rather than seeking direction from God. This religious system would GLORIFY MAN and be steeped in the occult. The Babylonian system of the end time will be a religious system that has a FORM of Godliness – (2 Tim. 3:5) but it will EXALT man and will be steeped in the Occult.

They may have heard of the true God for Shem, but they did not follow Him. They worshiped FALSE GOD”S. FALSE GOD’S THEY WORSHIPED: 1. FATHER heaven & MOTHER earth, An and Ki. They became Anki, the highest god. 2. The god of AIR – 3. Another main god was INANNA, who in history we probably Nimrod wife.

The goddess supposedly descended in the underworld, after the women of the town wept for three days, she brought her husband back to a REBORNLIFE, becoming his mother as well as his wife. This imitation religion SPREAD all over the world. The Babylonian system of false religion has come down to the present day. People worship Mother earth or believe in the goddess, the Queen of heaven. This system began before the flood, was renewed at Babel, lasted all through history, and will soon come to a VIOLENT end like a great millstone being cast into the sea (Rev. 18:21).

It is an INFlUENTIAL system - The Babylonian system must have been tempting so as to cause man to DISOBEY God. Man would WORK OUT his own salvation without any restrictions by God if he could. PLEASE NOTE – A system that would unite culture, politics, and religion, sounded good to the ear, but would never work, because GOD would be left out. We need to make sure were not CAUGHT UP in a world system like that, because it brings dishonor to God.

GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL The DISTRUCTION OF BABYLON - (Gen. 11:6-9) And the LORD said, "Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech."8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL The DISTRUCTION OF BABYLON - (Gen. 11:6-9) We are given some insight into a great Babylonish system that will REACH it’s pinnacle in the tribulation period - (Rev. 17&18). In Gen. 11:7 God said, Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language . . .” God moved in JUDGMENT against this godless system. In the not to distant future, God will say, “Let us go down” and JUDGE this present world’s economic, political, and religious system – (Rev. 17)

GENESIS THE TOWER OF BABEL Application of Mesage The early disciples realized this world was going to be condemned and therefore had no problem giving what they had for the CAUSE of Christ (Acts 2:41-27; 4:32-37) Those who held back part SUFFERED (Acts 5:1-11) What are we holding back? If God called you to go and serve Him, would you go? Would you answer God’s call? With a Yes! or NO!
