  1. Overview of new Nortel NetworksSmall Site Solution(Nortel Networks Confidential) Introducing BCM 50 Author: Tom Price

  2. What is it? • A new hardware and software platform evolution for Business Communications Manager class of products. • A new platform that delivers the value of BCM (TDM and IP converged voice + applications) down to small sites • 3 to 30 users, • either in stand-alone or • networked configurations • Value based on overall system cost, including • operations costs in installation and • support costs and • overhead costs and • overall effectiveness.

  3. BCM50 BCM 200 The Evolution of BCM We have taken all of the value of BCM! • All of the hundreds of Telephony features that have evolved from Norstar • All of the Voice Processing features such as Voice Mail, Unified messaging, Auto Attendant and Customer Controlled Routing • Call Center and CTI • IP Telephony Stations and Trunks • And Centralized Management BCM 400 And delivered on a platform for the very small site!

  4. GAP Op 11 How does It fit in the Nortel Networks Portfolio of Solutions? It fills an existing void for the very small site SRG SBO Succession 1000 BCM 400 BCM 200 3x8 MICS CICS

  5. BCM 50 Complements the BCM portfolio • Call Center • BCM50 supports Basic Call Center with up to 10 agents and 2 skill sets. • BCM200/400 adds Professional Call Center for more complex configurations • IVR • BCM50 Auto Attendant and Customer Controlled Routing can route calls to a Centralized IVR • BCM200/400 provides on site IVR • Router • BCM50 has models with Ethernet Router with VPN, and DSL Router built in. • BCM200/400 can support integrated Frame Relay and ISDN data • Mobility • BCM50 supports T7406 work space mobility up to 2 base stations and 6 handsets • BCM200/400 supports IP or Digital mobility solutions

  6. MBMs Supported • 4x16 Combo • ASM8 • CTM4 • CTM8 • DTM • BRI • DSM16 • DSM32 • DDIM • GATM4 • GATM8 Flexibility & Functionality • Start from a compact, VoIP capable main base chassis with support for analog trunks, analog stations and digital stations • Add to this configuration using the BCM50 Expansion Chassis • A full suite of MBM modules is supported • Also available with a choice of 2 integrated router cards Compact Base Unit • max 4 analog trunks • max 4 analog stations • max 12 digital stations • max 32 IP stations • max 24 IP trunks • 2 RJ-45 LAN ports Expansion chassis • Digital stations • Digital trunking • Analog trunking • Analog stations • ADSL to ethernet router - or • Ethernet to ethernet router

  7. Flexible Configurations • Ports on the main chassis are enabled through the application of soft keys: Analog trunk interfaces, Analog station interfaces, Digital station interfaces, IP sets, IP trunks, Expansion interfaces. • Capacity expansion is enabled by purchasing more keys for the base unit or through the addition of MBMs. • This supports the creation of capacity based commercial bundles with a great deal of flexibility: • Customers of the BCM50 will be able to choose and pay for the capacity they require. • Optimize the pricing down to the smallest line configurations

  8. Traditional Voice + VoIP • Complete telephony feature set from BCM 3.6 • All legacy digital telephone sets! • Investment protection for existing Norstar and BCM customers • 2 x 10/100 Ethernet LAN ports • Up to 32 IP telephones • i2004, i2002 and the new i2001 • i2050 soft client • DCHP server included for management of IP sets • Up to 24 IP trunks • H.323 V4 • Internal H.323 routing table or external gatekeeper • G711 A law, G729,A,B • T.38 fax • G.168 echo cancellation

  9. Flexible Installation Options The main unit and the expansion chassis share the same plastic packaging Units can be stacked (with positive alignment features) for desktop or shelf mount configurations The compact size allows for side by side configuration to fit into a standard 19 inch rack mount . Tab details ensure that the two units are exactly aligned Wall mountable using the optional wall mount bracket which features an integrated cable management bay for tidy cable dressing Side by side and stack can be used in combination

  10. Status LED Power LED Front Panel Layout Expansion 19V DC Power LAN1 LAN2 Admin Button Music In USB Analog Trunks, Digital Stations, Analog Stations Music-on-hold in, Page out Aux Relay USB • Supports external memory devices • Can be used for backup and restore, key code files, start up files, etc for management simplification Admin Button • “Paper clip” accessible switch • If pressed at a specified time during startup, will restore the unit to factory default configuration Expansion Ports • Connection of MBMs via BCM50 expansion chassis • Also provides 10/100 connection for crafts person direct access for OA&M – isolated from LAN for security while on customer premise LAN Ports • 10/100 base T autosensing / autopolarity

  11. Expansion Chassis Digital Trunk MBM • Plastic enclosure identically matches the main unit • RJ45 connector for expansion to main unit • FS256 + Ethernet OAM • No “special” cable requirements – will work with a regular Cat 5 patch cable • RJ45 (break out) for OAM Ethernet • Allows craftsperson access directly to the BCM50 even when both expansion ports are in use MBM Ejector Expansion Port to Main Unit OAM Port 19V DC Power

  12. Wide Area VoIP Solutions • Remote users, Network Access • Multisite • Secure VPN Capable Internet Access Remote Management Optional Integrated Router Small business class 4 port router • Ethernet to Ethernet – or • ADSL to Ethernet • Based on Contivity 221 / 251 Product

  13. Built on “Nortel Corporate Linux” • BCM50 will be the first LPS product built on Linux • Advantages include: • Improved security environment • Direct developer access to the OS layer for fast issue resolution • Allows ownership of the strategic direction and ensuring an effective, long term support strategy • Tap into a huge community for OS support and functions designed for the Linux OS • Nortel Corporate Linux is a Nortel initiative first applied to our major call servers. • Developed for the high reliability, secure carrier market • In 2 years of exposure on the compact call server, there have been 0 linux kernel issues • Fully supported in Nortel

  14. A New Management Structure • Why change the management structure? • Simplification! • Ease of installation • New client application for management • Framework is not specific to BCM50 • “Data cartridge” gives the framework the personality to manage the BCM50 • Future product direction could use this framework • Standards based • Transport using CIM-XML over HTTP(S) to access data model • Used by client GUI and available to 3rd party management applications • Task Oriented • Simpler – Less clicking and more programming • Supports traditional Norstar set based management • Supports remote dial up management through a flexible internal soft modem connection to a remote client application • Multi-element management using NCM

  15. Single Element Management Client Based • Very fast intuitive presentation • Standards based implementation (CIM-XML) • Task oriented versus functionally grouped • Lower the training hurdle • Future proof architecture • Complete FCAPS coverage Set Based • Existing Norstar management • Coverage only for core telephony and core applications • Allows those who are trained and efficient in using the Norstar methods to continue to use them

  16. Multi Element Management IP Network Operations Center – NOC • Network Configuration Manager - NCM • Multi-element server and database • Same client framework for the management stations located anywhere on the network PSTN Workstations • Can be anywhere on the IP network or remote using modem off the PSTN network • At any station, the framework can run a single element management session to a specific system or run multi-element back through the server
