  1. Mrs. Fowler’s ClassSixth Grade Language Arts • The Language Arts Curriculum is based on the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) as required by the state of Texas.

  2. Reading Focus • Main idea and details • Summarization • Fact/Non-fact/Opinion • Inferences • Drawing conclusions • Author’s influence/point of view • Persuasive Devices through Propaganda

  3. Written Communication Focus • The Writing Process includes the stages of prewriting, composing, evaluating, revising, editing, and composing. • Grammar skills include the eight parts of speech. • Capitalization and punctuation rules • Increasing spelling knowledge

  4. CLASSWORK • Reading – Any unfinished classwork will need to be completed at home. • Vocabulary - Vocabulary packets are issued each Friday and due on Thursday each week. • Target Reading Sheet with a weekly quiz is due each Friday. • Spring Board assignments in student workbooks are mostly done in class, but could be required to complete at home.

  5. HOMEWORK Homework and Classwork are worth 60% of your child’s grade. Quizzes and Tests are worth 40% of your child’s grade. Assignments are sent home in the Tuesday folder and can be corrected for a 70%. Please check Parent Access and their folders for all work.

  6. STAAR Test Reading STAAR – April 23, 2013 Students are given one opportunity to take the test. This test is timed and students are given four hours.

  7. Absences Allen ISD requires parents to send a handwritten note stating the reason for any absence so students may be excused. Please contact us by e-mail before 10:00 a.m. so we can gather your child’s work and send it to Mrs. Dade’s desk.

  8. Family Access Portal The best way to keep up with your child’s academic progress is through Family Access. You can also get e-mail alerts concerning your child’s progress. You will see your child’s current grades, class and homework assignments, tests, and project due dates.

  9. PRIME TIME 8:05 – 8:30 Prime Time is an intervention/enrichment time for all students. ESL, Speech, Dyslexia, etc…students are serviced at this time. Prime Time will begin on September 17.

  10. Responsibility Card The primary purpose of the card is to help students become responsible for their actions and prepare them for middle school. Students receive a new card each week. Please sign the Tuesday folder, read the back of the card, sign it, and return it with the folder. 

  11. ADVISORY ACTIVITIES(FRIDAY ONLY) Finish homework and ask for help from teachers. Students can go to the Library. Read books.
