  1. Intro To Musical ElementsFinal Project

  2. The Sensuous Listener • Song: Gangnam Style • Artist: Psy • Composer: Yoo Gun Hyung

  3. The Sensuous Listener(Gangnam Style) • This song makes me feel really happy and I want to dance. • As I listen to this song I think of a place that would be in Korea where everyone is dancing and no work is getting done because this song is so awesome. • If I was doing anything while listening to this song I would probably be doing my homework or I would be annoying my friends while listening to this song. • If I was at any place I would be in my house alone with the speakers blasting this song. :D

  4. The Sensuous Listener(Gangnam Style) Cont. • If I was eating any meal while listening to this song I would be eating some rice and some BBQ ribs because this song is spicy. • If this music was playing anywhere in the world it would be playing in Korea.

  5. The Associative Listener • Song: City In The Sky • Artist: Scale The Summit • Composer: Scale The Summit

  6. The Associative Listener(City In The Sky) • As I listen to this piece I think of an action story. This story begins on a giant battlefield and the hero is surrounded by hordes of enemies and he needs to fight them off. • One Situation from my past that comes to mind is when I had a dream and I had to defend the city from thousands of enemies all by myself.

  7. The Associative Listener(City In The Sky) • If this was in any movie this movie would be about how a hero needs to overcome many obstacles to save the one he loves. • As this music is being played the hero has reached his final challenge, A giant mech warrior and he has to defeat it to save the one he loves.

  8. The Associative Listener(City In The Sky) • One alone activity that I would be doing is recreating a giant battle by myself. • One Group activity I would be doing is just hanging out with my friends and we would be rocking out to this song. • If this music depicted a picture it would be something like David and The Goliath. The picture would look like a really tiny David V.S a huge goliath. Some colors I would see is red and orange mostly hot colors for what is going on in the picture.

  9. The Critical Listener • Song 1: Die Young Song 2: Die Young • Artist: Ke$ha (Acoustic) • Composers: Benjamin Artist: Ke$ha • Levin, Henry Walter, Composer: Ke$ha • Kesha Sehert, Lukasz • Gottward, Nate Ruess

  10. The Critical Listener(Die Young) (1) • What I like about this song is the singing. I think Ke$ha is an amazing singer and it really shows in this song. • The performers really convey the meaning of this song. It’s a song that’s supposed to be happy and romantic and the performers nailed it perfectly. • This song is authentic. This style of the music is supposed to be rock and the performers captured it really well.

  11. The Critical Listener(Die Young) (1) • The instruments are really good and I think it makes the music even better. They even use some instruments when she says them in her song making it awesome. • If I was in charge of this ensemble I wouldn’t change a thing to it its perfect the way it is. • One weakness about this song is that it really feels short. It feels like the song is only 2 minutes long. • One strength of this song is that the way the quality of the music makes me feel like I'm actually there at the concert. • If I had to rate this I would give this song a 4.75/5.

  12. The Critical Listener(Die Young) (2) • I like how the song feels. The first version felt all rock and really fast. This version feels peaceful and slow. • One thing I dislike is how after the refrain they go straight to the next verse. • I really like the sound of the voice. Ke$ha took it slow on this version and made it sound even better.

  13. The Critical Listener(Die Young) (2) • I love the instruments in this song. They make the song feel peaceful and even a little sad at some parts. • If I was in charge of this the one thing I would change is skipping straight to the verse after the refrain. I would let the instruments play a little bit before they start to sing again. • All the notes were played correctly and the performers did an excellent job conveying the true meaning of this song.

  14. The Critical Listener(Die Young) (2) • One weakness of this song is that she changed the lyrics at some parts. It would be even better if she left the lyrics as it was. • One strength of this song is that it is all authentic and nothing was copied from any other songs. • If I had to rate this song I would give it a 4.5/5

  15. Critical Listening Comparison(Die Young) (1) (Ke$ha) • Instruments makes the song feel more energizing. • Pace of the song feels faster then the other version. • Ke$ha’s voice helps add that exciting feel to the song. • Ke$ha’s voice also makes the song feel less romantic then it really is. • The song in general makes me feel happy and upbeat even when I had a bad day

  16. Critical Listening Comparison(Die Young) (2) (Ke$ha) • Instruments make the song have that romantic feel • The pace is slower than the other song which I don’t really like • Ke$ha’s voice helps this song a lot because when she sings the song had this romantic feel • Ke$ha’s voice is also slower than the other song. • This song makes me feel sad however not happy.

  17. Critical Listening Comparison(Both Songs) • Same singer • Same lyrics for the most part • Same beat just slowed down in 2nd version • The meter of the some is the same • The texture of the song is the same heterophonoic.

  18. Critical Listening Comparison(Likes and Dislikes) • Two things I liked about both versions is that the texture of the song is hetrophonic and the song has a romantic feel to it • Two things I disliked about both versions is that the instruments get annoying at some points and the lyrics could get improved to be better

  19. Critical Listening Comparison(Likes and Dislikes) • Two things I liked about version one was that the song was fast paced and the instruments were awesome at some parts • Two things I disliked about version one was that Ke$ha’s voice doesnt make the song feel romantic and the pace of the song seems to fast at times.

  20. Critical Listening Comparison(Likes and Dislikes) • Two things I liked about version two is that the song really has that romantic feel and the voice in that version is beautiful. • Two things I disliked about version two was that the song seemed really slow at time and the lyrics didn’t go with the song as much as it did with version one.

  21. The Attentive Listener Genre: Jazz Song: So What Artist + Composer: Miles Davis

  22. Summary Of Musical Genre(Jazz) • Jazz is a musical style that originated at the beginning of the 20th century in black communities in the Southern United States. It was born out of a mix of African and European music traditions. As the music has developed and spread around the world it has drawn on many different national, regional and local musical cultures. In a 1988 interview, trombonist J. J. Johnson said, "Jazz is restless. It won't stay put and it never will".

  23. Summary Of Musical Genre(Jazz) • Because it spans music from Ragtime to the present day, jazz can be very difficult to define. One way to get around the definitional problems is to define the term "jazz" more broadly. One person defines jazz as a "form of art music which originated in the United States through the confrontation of blacks with European music.

  24. Summary Of Musical Piece(So What) • "So What" is one of the best known examples of modal jazz. The piano-and-bass introduction for the piece was written by Gil Evans and Paul Chambers. the track is taken at a very moderate tempo on ”Kind Of Blue.” An orchestrated version by Gil Evans of this introduction is later to be found on a television broadcast given by Miles' Quintet and the Gil Evans Orchestra; the orchestra gave the introduction, after which the quintet played the rest of "So What."

  25. The Attentive Listener(So What) • My Understanding of this piece is that this piece of music is that the song is supposed to feel sad. The song is not supposed to be all happy jazz its supposed to be a sad song because it has some instruments that make the song sound like its blues.

  26. The Attentive Listener(So What) • Some connections I can make while listening to this song is that I feel a little sad while listening. I think Miles tried to do this with this song. The song feels like jazz with a little bit of blues in it so the song is supposed to feel sad. • Another thing I feel while listening to this song is that even though the song is sad I feel like I want to get up and dance and that’s another thing I think Miles wanted to do with song. Even though the song feels sad because it is a little bit of blues, Miles put the jazz in to make the listener feel like they want to dance.

  27. The Attentive Listener(So What) • The feel that this song suggests is that it is supposed to feel sad but it wants to get you to move. I think I get this feeling while listening is because the music is quiet and slow. I don’t want to get up and break dance but I feel like the instruments in this song make the song the way it is. When I listen to this song I feel like I'm in a jazz club and this music is playing on a quiet night.
