Federation of Canadian Municipalities(FCM) - Profile • FCM is Canada’s national voice of municipal government • Represents more than 1,100 municipal governments (80% of the Canadian population) • FCM is dedicated to improving the quality of life and sustainability of local communities

ICMD’s International Programming Objectives • To develop local capacities by promoting citizen’s participation in public affairs management and good governance • To develop associations capacities to offer quality services to their members, advocacy and networks development • To develop and disseminate knowledge based on municipal development and association capacity building experience • To support national governments in the development of policies and procedures to achieve efficient processes of decentralization and municipalisation • To develop institutional capacities at global, regional and local levels for sustainable development

ICMD-FCM’s Africa Program Two components: • Municipal Partnership Program (Global) • Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali • African Local Governance Program (ALGP) (Canada Fund for Africa/ NEPAD) ALGP: • April 04 - March 07 • 4 608 000 $, plus in-kind contributions from partners • 4 countries (Ghana, Mali, Mozambique & Tanzania) • 2 regional partners– PDM & MDP-ESA • 1 continental organisation - UCLGA

National Association of Municipalities of Mozambique (ANAM) • Association Launch: inaugural Congress, administrative structures & processes • Association Strategic Planning: national workshop for policy direction and priority setting • Association Capacity Building: training in key priority sectors, development of priority services to members, communication strategy Ministry of State Administration • An effective decentralization process to 33 urban municipalities • Ensuring that ANAM is a partner in the decentralization process, in the dissemination of information and training with municipalities Local Authorities • Priority sectors and possible partnerships still to be determined based on results of upcoming ANAM National Strategic Planning Workshop • Strengthening basic municipal management capacity expected to be part of proposed activities
