  3. Why the “Center” is necessary- why not an office only (since 1985) - • Increase in the work Office work + Educational work ✓Review of programs ✓New programs/projects • Motivation toward development Trendy “globalization”

  4. Goal: • To build an effective hub for KMU int’l affairs. • Aims: • In educational activities • To develop human resources who practice medicine • with global views. • To develop medical education programs • through interaction with international universities. • In research activities • -To develop human resources who construct global • networks aiming at contribution toward • the advancement of medical science.

  5. Objectives: • To develop and participate in exchange programs. • To assist KMU students to study abroad. • To help international students, researchers, • staff and their families live comfortably • while visiting KMU. • 4. To help KMU employees become global-oriented.

  6. CIE members • Faculty one physician.....neurosurgeon four language teachers 3 English teachers+ 1 German teacher one general education teacher • Office staff one senior clerk and one junior clerk

  8. Relationship with the Int’l Committee CIE’s role to the committee 1. Proposing new programs 2. Reviewing and giving feedback on KMU sponsored programs 3. Reporting on CIE sponsored programs/projects

  9. What are we doing? 1/4 Section 1: Overseas learning for the undergrads - Medical studies..... Akai, MD Vermont (summer) - Medical clerkships..... Akai, MD Vermont (spring), Mercer, Texas A&M, Hawaii, Magdeburg? - Language courses.....Shibuya, PhD Sonoma, CAPE Hawaii

  10. What are we doing? 2/4 Section 2: Assisting English presentations - Proofreading services General Eng grammar, words, etc. - Seminars on English presentation skills

  11. What are we doing? 3/4 Section 3 Helping enrolled international people and their families as of Sept. 2010 N=16 : 11 from China, 2 from Vietnam, 1 from Bangladesh, 1 from Thailand, 1 from Russia ( 4 families + 12 individuals ) ( 10 graduates + 5 researchers + 1 trainee)

  12. What are we doing? 4/4 Section 4: On-campus globalization - English lessons for KMU employees - Regular get-together meetings - Publicity: website CIE section in quarterly KMU newsletters
