  1. My Favourite Modern Designers • Ron Arad • Ben Gulak • Thomas Heatherwick • Philippe Stark • Yves Behar • Hironao Tsuboi • Marc Newson • James Dyson • ZahaHadid • Wally Olins • Jonathon Ive By: Donald M-F

  2. Ron Arad I like Ron Arad’s style because it is very futuristic which will become more common in the years to come. The designs also have the tendency to flow using patterns and just the style of the furniture. Ron Arad is possibly my favourite furniture designer because of his different style and the usefulness of his designs.

  3. Ben Gulak Ben Gulak is a young designer who creates vehicles aimed at people between the ages of 18 to 30 and maybe others in the years to come. I like his designs because they are new and at the moment futuristic. His designs are very useful because the uno bike is small and can park easily and the transforming version would appeal more to the older class.

  4. Thomas Heatherwick Thomas Heatherwick is a modern designer who is very original in his ideas, some of his designs are based on something rather basic and modifying it to make it more fun (the spin chair) or less space consuming (the roll-up bridge, finally better looking (the London bus) I like his concepts because they are original, especially the sculptures (below). He also tries to make his concepts green, the cafe (right) is built on a beach and slightly camouflaged so as not to ruin the landscape.

  5. Philippe Stark Philippe Stark is my favourite interior product designer. His style is very slim and also rather elongated as is the fashion. Some of his other concepts like the gun holding lampshade are more for entertainment purposes than reason. I like this particular style because of its curves and the slimness of the models.

  6. Yves Behar Yves Behar’s style changes throughout his designs, for example the lamp (right) and the watch (below) are very sleek, smooth and have a very modern look about them. The folding chair/table is the complete opposite apart from the modern look, there are sharp corners and ridges defining the shape. Finally the computer (below) is designed for children in need and has a toy look. I like Yves’ thinking because he also designs for charities, the solar/wind up powered computer for children in need. I also like his modern designs.

  7. Hironao Tsuboi Hironao Tsuboi doesn’t have an obvious style although he designs a lot of interesting products and very useful ones as well. The most useful of his designs is the umbrella with a stand. He makes very stylish objects like the speakers and watch, they have very defined and hard shapes. He doesn’t design specifically for one age. Overall I like his designs, especially the watch, however I don’t like the light up phone (below) because of the childish and girlish design.

  8. Marc Newson Marc Newson like Ron Arad is one of my favourite designers because his designs are all very smooth with no sharp corners, this makes everything more futuristic. He also designs for people with disabilities like partial paralysis, for this he made the car with swivel seats that make it easier to enter and exit the car. My favourite designs by Marc Newson are both the watch (right) and the orange chair (below). I like the watch because of the stylish platinum design. On the other hand, the chair is very modern with good colour coding.

  9. James Dyson I find James Dyson’s designs modern and interesting. In most of his products he uses two main colours, and the other small changes in those colours. His designs are very useful and environmentally friendly. I like his products because they make boring household products look better, the design below looks very fun and usefully compact.

  10. ZahaHadid ZahaHadid is my favourite architect designer, her style is mostly very curvy and smooth to look at. She, my opinion designs things which are so modern looking that some of her designs have an alieny look about them. Her creations mostly include something jutting out over an edge (right/bottomleft). I like these designs because, as always, I like modern designs. I like the shapes that she creates with the lights especially the bottomleft design. I also like the station (right)

  11. Wally Olins Wally Olins is a very famous logo designer. His work is very simple and at most only contaning two colours beside white. His designs are very unique and hard to forget, this is useful for advertising. The writing on his designs are always very easy to read and generally quite large. Generally I like these designs for their simplicity and easy to readness.

  12. Jonathon Ive Jonathon Ive has a style that you can see throughout all of his work, he likes to work as thin as possible and mostly with round corners. He uses many circles in his designs, mostly for the centre button. I like all of his designs, especially the iPod touches, these are the slimmest of his designs. My favourite part of his designs is that they are all slightly the same yet a different colour or generation sets them apart.
