  2. The materials supply chain is a flow chart indicating the steps in the lifecycle of a component, from manufacture (design) to end-use.

  3. A bill of materials provides essential information needed to obtain components for a piece of equipment.

  4. Using replica parts can result in cost savings compared to using spare parts provided by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Replica parts must be carefully evaluated for the designed use.

  5. The AISI-SAE designation system indicates the alloy content of steels.

  6. Specification ASTM A53 is a general steel piping specification, but ASTM A106 is preferred for critical applications.

  7. All data input into the computer must be accurate and entered exactly as required.

  8. When physically large or complex items are received, 100% inspection may be performed.

  9. Material identification information systems provide ordering and storage efficiency.

  10. A materials exception report documents the reasons why a material is determined to be nonconforming.

  11. Before storing, equipment or motors should be filled with lubricant recommended by the manufacturer.
