  1. Commercial Reflection Questions Baela Ferrigno Period - 5

  2. How does your product use or challenge and how does it represent social groups or issues? The genre of the product is a commercial/infomercial, the product stays in the boundaries of the typical infomercial by the use of a overzealous host, zooms, and editing. We tried to emulate the traditional tropes of a infomercial by including the “X” over the mugs and the phone number to call. This product represents the issue of consumerism by mocking the constant push for unnecessary and unuseful products that is seen in the culture. By creating a satirical product we wish to start a conversation - where is the line drawn between need and frivolousness.

  3. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? The product will get audience’s attention with the the unconventional product that we decided to base the infomercial on. The video was on ea mug that could be used for things other than drinking, by using an uncommon and unconventional it will attract people to the product. This product will be marketed on channels like cbs, abc, and my33 during the morning and in the afternoon when people would be watching television to reach as many people as possible. There would also be advertising on youtube before a video so people would have to watch it before they can see their video.

  4. How did your production skills develop through this project? Through this project, I learned a lot more in regards to editing that I did not know after completing our previous music video assignment. In order to make the music video as realistic as possible in how the phone number and the “X” and conveyed the effect of a infomercial, I learned how to edit the effects by adding text and pictures. This was imperative because without the visual effects added it wouldn’t fully be conveyed had the effects not been there. I really enjoyed being able to work with audio and how certain places affect the type of quality of sound you have.

  5. How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online - in this project? While filming we used a tripod, previously we were unable to use one because of the genre of our music video did not allow it. Working with the tripod allowed us to get certain angles that we otherwise would be able to get. The editing software we used allowed us to do the visual effects of the phone number and the “X”, these techniques are fairly new to me so using this software allowed me to be able to be fully comfortable.
