  1. Welcome To Our Classroom… Mrs. Johnson March 30, 2009

  2. Objective of tonight: • Tonight is about understanding the mechanics/procedures of our new math program, Accelerated Math (AM). • The outcome: Successful 5th Grade Student

  3. Tonight’s agenda • Refresher on Accelerated Math implementation • Home Connect • Parent Viewer • NEW…Accelerated Math program • Mrs. Johnson’s Website • Mrs. Johnson’s email

  4. NEW…Accelerated Math (A.M.) • Effective Monday, September 22nd we began a new math program to measure student growth and independency. This is just like our AR program. • Walk through the system (scanner/printer/review report/file it) • Reports less than 83%: Students MUST fix their missed problems to learn. THEN they move to their new practice sheet to ensure understanding of the math concept before moving on. • CONCERNS: Students who are unable to work independently and/or do their daily work will STRUGGLE in this math program.

  5. Accelerated Math + Your Instruction = SUCCESS!! • Accelerated Math + Your Instruction = Success! • Accelerated Math's advanced technology helps you provide the essential math practice component of your math curriculum. This classroom-proven software: • Creates math assignments tailored to each student's current level. • Automatically scores all math practice, including assignments and tests. • Provides ongoing feedback on students' daily practice. • Helps you differentiate math instruction, addressing each student's individual needs.

  6. How AM Provides Differentiated Instruction • How Accelerated MathProvides Personalized Practice • Teacher Reviews Status of the Class. This instant progress report helps you plan your day and manage each student's activities. • Teacher Delivers Instruction. You introduce a new math objective using your existing textbook and instructional methods. Accelerated Math libraries are aligned to state standards and work with virtually any textbook. • Students Practice Objectives. You assign new objectives and print individualized practice assignments and math quizzes using Accelerated Math's built-in assignment book. • Teacher Reviews Objectives. You provide small group re-teaching or additional instruction as needed based on feedback from the software's management tools. • Teacher Monitors Progress. You print the Diagnostic Report to monitor the performance of each student's progress and identify struggling students.

  7. Daily Student Procedures… • Scan any homework/practices from yesterday at the beginning of math (meaning your child must compared) • Students then will receive another PRACTICE automatically and/or Test/Exercise/Diagnostic Test (which is teacher printed)

  8. Daily Math Procedures…Student Priority #1 • Top Priority is working on Tests during their school day. • Common questions…How does my child receive a test? • Your child will receive a test after completing/mastering 2 or more practice objectives. • Students MUST master at least 5 out of 6 of their objective problems to receive a test.

  9. Independent Exercise/Diagnostic Test… 2nd Priority • Students who struggled with an objective will AUTOMATICALLY receive from their teacher an intervention (Exercise/Diagnostic Test) to reteach the math objective that your child is struggling on to enforce understanding before moving on to the next objective.

  10. Independent AM Math Practice… 3rd Priority (Homework) • AFTER students have successfully completed all of their 1st and 2nd priority work, students should move to their independent work (Practice). • This means that a student must work independently on their own work. This is also usually homework.

  11. Parent Communication Opportunities… • Weekly Goals are published in your child’s Friday Folder as well as in their planners. • OR • Check on Home Connect via the Oakridge Public Schools website. • OR • Check your child’s AM TOPS Report for the information located at the bottom right-hand side of their TOPS Report.
