  2. Public Education Funding Due to recent economic budget allocations, there is a deficit of 300 million dollars for public education funding in 2010!

  3. Public Education Funding • Reduction in revenue from the state will impact all public school districts. • Carmel Clay School will face an immediate 4 million dollar loss in revenue from the state in 2010.

  4. Public Education Funding • Carmel Clay Schools will continue its tradition of being fiscally responsible and will pursue avenues to address the loss of revenue. • CCS’ Board of Education has been exploring these avenues.

  5. Public Education Funding • Carmel, Clay, and Creekside Middle Schools will continue to provide our students the academic and extra-curricular programs in 2010 -11. • The organizational structure of our schools may look differently.

  7. Sixth Grade Courses Required: • humanities (language arts and social studies), math and science • world language • wellness • exploratory art • keyboarding • music experience

  8. Advanced and Honors Placement • There are varying levels of math and humanities to choose from based upon your child’s ability level:

Honors Evaluation • Honors testing is taking place this Saturday, January 23rd. • Only students who are already registered for the testing may participate. • If your student does not qualify and you would like to consider a waiver you must attend a meeting at ESC on February 25, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

  10. World Language • All sixth grade students must take a world language. • Students will study this same world language during their three years in middle school. • Language choices are French, German, and Spanish.

  11. Wellness = PE/Health • Wellness is a combination of health and physical education that encourages students to move and grow. • Students also have an opportunity to participate in our DARE program during this time as well.

  12. Practical Arts • Students in 6th grade must take exploratory art and keyboarding. • Students who are not taking performing arts may take study hall, technology education and/or journalism.

  13. Performing Arts • Band, orchestra and choir are elective performing arts choices. • Mrs. Higdon visited elementary schools to present performing arts information. • Please check out the music department website www.creeksidemusic.org • There is no better time to join performing arts than in 6th grade!

  14. The Time Table • Counselors will talk to your students at their school on the following dates: Towne Meadow 2/16 West Clay 2/17 Orchard Park 2/18 College Wood 2/19 • 6th grade orientation is on August 5, 2010.
