  1. Lincolnshire Table Cricket Sociological Issues in Sport Development Project- Emma Buttery, Rachel Williams, Danielle Lavery & Alice Carter.

  2. What is Table Cricket? • The game of Table Cricket provides recreational and competition opportunities for youngsters with severe physical or learning disabilities to play competitive cricket within schools and out. • The game uses a table tennis table top or an equivalent sized table. Equipment for the game includes side panels with sliding fielders, a ball launcher (ramp) using a plastic ball and a small wooden bat (cricket bat shaped). The game aims to simulate a game of cricket between two teams of up to six players at a table top level.

  3. England Cricket Board • ‘The game is strong at the top of the 'pyramid' but appears to lack structure and co-ordination at grass-roots level’ (CP Sport, 2012). • The Cricket boards aims for table cricket are to develop the game at grass roots level, and to increase sustainability, structure and awareness of the sport.

  4. What opportunities are available to participate in Table Cricket? EBS’s aim is to increase participation at grass root level. Partnered with the Youth Sports Trust, CP and Sport England they have introduced this sport into local schools but other possible participants have not yet been approached such as: • Elderly & middle aged • Out of school clubs • Post patients -The Lord's Taverners Table Cricket Development Programme offers the Youth Leader Award and various Skill Awards for children that regularly participate to put on their CV’s. -Table cricket is one of the Games included in the Youth Sports Trust SportSability programme and is included with equipment and cards in the TOPS SportSability bag – an element of the Active Schools Programme as many disabled schools participate in this sport. County, regional and local table cricket leagues have been set up by ECB, but there is a lack of participation and research on this sport which is a weakness.
