  3. Purpose of the Meeting • Provide an overview of the: • Corridor project, MP 66.5-92 • Chickaloon Bridge replacement project • Long Lake design options • Answer questions and collect feedback

Purpose and Need • The purpose of this project is to enhance the safety of the highway and accommodate the anticipated traffic for the next 20 years. • This rehabilitation project will: • Preserve and extend the service life of the highway • Enhance safety • Provide climbing lanes • Provide rock fall mitigation

Environmental Assessment Work • 1993: an Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impactfor Glenn Highway MP 35-109 were approved • 1993 thru 2014: four NEPA Re-evaluations** completed for phased improvements to the Glenn Highway, including near the Palmer and Sutton areas, Pinochle Hill, Hicks Creek and Caribou Creek • 2014: NEPA Re-evaluations for the replacement of the Chickaloon Bridge and Glenn Highway between MP 66.5 and 92 • ** A NEPA Re-evaluation, often used in large multi-phased construction projects that occur over a number of years, examines potential changes in environmental impacts that may have occurred in a project area previously reviewed under NEPA.

Chickaloon Bridge • The Chickaloon Bridge is a priority due to low structural ratings of the deck and railing. • Repair costs for the bridge are high, and the lifespan of the repairs would be limited. • Replacing the bridge now will cost less in total than repairing the bridge and then replacing it in the near future.
