Presentation Transcript
Rolling Chairs • Two volunteers sit in rolling chairs. • Experiment with one person pushing the other and both people pushing each other. • What happens? How does the motion change? How is it still the same? • Explain the motion by applying Newton’s Laws. • Now have one person hold a stack of textbooks. Repeat for this new situation.
Weight and Scales • A volunteer stands on the scale and observes her/his weight. • Then puts your hands under lip of the table and pull upward on the edge of the table. How much do you weigh while doing this? • Next, while standing on scale, push down on tabletop. How much do you weigh while doing this? • Why does this happen? Clearly explain with regards to the forces and Newton’s Laws.
Jump Around! • Jump around! Jump around! Jump up, jump up and get down. Jump! Jump! Jump…! Explain, using Newton’s Laws, how this is possible. How does jumping “work?”
