Equities in Brunei’s National Plan (2035) BRUNEI’s LEADERS and NATIONAL VISION • “Strengthening the competency in ICT for students, teachers and educational administrators including the integration of ICT in school curriculum.” • “Adopting cost effective methods of education of our people through the use of technology” • “Encouraging equal opportunities in the work force and in nation building” • Government highlights that communication and digital literacy is a key component of new skills Bruneian women are made aware of the national development plan especially in business and with particular emphasis on the development of the population in ICT using eLearning as a tool. Distinct opportunities to learn and continue self-development whilst taking career breaks

Opportunities to ImprovePast Statistics SOME BRUNEI STATISTICS FOR WOMEN • Brunei Darussalam is ranked 94 out of 134 countries in the global gender gap report in 2009 by World Economic Forum. • Labor force participation rate for females in 2001 was 62.3% dropping to 56.7% in 2008 (Brunei Darussalam Key Indicators, BDKI) • 30% of the female working population in Brunei Darussalam are unemployed as of 2008 (BDKI ) • Schools have only been equipped with internet access starting 2009. Those who have left school prior to this did not have the same privilege. • There is a chance that these figures will improve for the 5 year period ending 2013. Women Unemployment -create opportunities in the private sector to address unemployment. Action: Build Capacity Internet Access at schools - Take steps to ensure awareness for ICT for girls starting from a young age to the golden generation. Opportunities beyond local market. Action: Access to Market
