Aphrodite (Venus). The goddess of love. Birth. Aphrodite had no real father or mother. As Uranus’ manhood was cut off it fell to the sea. When it hit the sea it created great waves and foam. From this foam Aphrodite was born. Aphrodite first washed ashore on Cythera.

  2. Birth • Aphrodite had no real father or mother. • As Uranus’ manhood was cut off it fell to the sea. When it hit the sea it created great waves and foam. From this foam Aphrodite was born. • Aphrodite first washed ashore on Cythera. • She gets her epithet Cytherea. • She is born as an adult.

  4. Marriage • Zeus fears that the gods will fight to marry Aphrodite so he marries her to? • Hephaestus (Vulcan) • Hephaestus has a limp and is the least attractive of the gods. • Hephaestus makes a fine golden girdle for her that is magical; making her more irresistible to other men.

Cupid • Aphrodite and Mars have a son named? • Eros (Cupid) • Also sometimes called Amor in Latin. • Always pictured as a chubby youth. • His weapons were the bow and arrow. • The golden tipped arrow caused the victim to fall in love with the first person that they saw. • The led tipped arrowed caused the victim to be repulsed by the first person that they saw. • His arrows had the power to make mortal and even gods fall in love.
