  2. What is calorie? • To survive we need to obtain energy from our food and this energy is measured in calories. In other words, a calorie is a unit of energy. • Calorie is a unit of measurement that lets us know how much energy our body derives from a particular food item.

  3. As bodily activity increases so more calories are burnt up That means in order to maintain a healthy weight it is necessary to consume the same amount of calories as are burnt up.

  4. Too little exercise and eating food containing more calories than are used up results in becoming overweight.

  5. A surplus of calories is converted by the body into either muscle or fat depending on the amount of bodily activity.

  6. If you enjoy your food it really is necessary to exercise regularly to avoid becoming overweight, this is the reason for so many couch potatoes.

  7. How do you measure your calories? Calories Calculator • This provides information for weight maintenance. This is based on the information you provide (height, weight, age, and activity level). • If you are overweight or underweight, the calculation may be high or may be low. You can choose a healthy weight for yourself and use that weight in the calculation.
