  4. Prospects What is a prospect? • A prospect is anyone who contacts BGSU for information about attending • There are many interaction opportunities, including: • Online requests • Telephone requests • Campus visits • College fairs • High school visits • SAT/ACT score loads

  5. Prospects • From the BGSU Homepage, click Admissions  Request Information • Basic personal and academic interest information is obtained • Contact the Office of Admissions if you would like prospective student information for your departmental needs

  6. Prospects • System generated ID’s – They last a lifetime • When a new person is added to CSS, the system automatically assigns a 10-digit BGSU ID • The ID takes the place of using Social Security numbers ad the official BGSU identification system

  11. Applicants • How do applicants apply? • Online or via the paper application • Menu path BGSU Home Page Admissions Apply Now • What if the person already exists in CSS as a prospect? Will the system generate a duplicate ID? • The system runs a Search/Match process behind the scenes comparing critical identifying information and prevents duplicates.

  12. Applicants • Once admitted, what does the system need to do? • All applicants in admit status are automatically matriculated using a programmed process at various times of the academic year • Once matriculated, the data is no longer accessible to the Admissions Office. It becomes the property of Registration & Records • How can I review admission data? • There are several summary pages in PeopleSoft to retrieve data pertaining to a particular applicant

  17. Applicants • What about Financial Aid? How do applicants initiate the need for FA? • Early each year, students must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and submit it to the Federal Government • That information is returned to colleges/universities in a downloadable file called ISIR (Institutional Student Information Report) • Based on many factors, schools use the ISIR to make their decisions on who qualifies for which awards/loans

  18. Applicants • How are the students notified of their Financial Aid? • Once the award has been determined, (called packaging) the students are notified via an award letter • How do students notify the school when they want to accept or decline the FA offer? • Once the new Student Center FA Status is active (April 2009), the student will have a link to their awards. If they are offered certain awards, they will have the option to Accept/Decline their awards online

  19. Applicants • Students who receive a hard copy version of the award letter may also complete the form and return it • Most awards are automatically accepted unless the student contacts the FA Office to decline them • Work Study, Perkins Loan awards, and Parent PLUS loans are examples of these awards
