  1. Sango Elementary Monday, October 17, 2011 Reading Our story this week is “Weslandia.” The reading skill is drawing conclusions. The vocabulary words are: envy, fleeing, civilization, complex, strategy, blunders, inspired, rustling. Study guides will come home Tuesday, due to egg drop Monday. Test Friday! Language Arts We will be studying verbs (pages 168-181) this week, we will be having a quiz Friday. Math Students will multiply with two and three digit multipliers. Students must show their work for each step of the multiplication process. This week students will ONLY be allowed to use calculators to check their work. Math Superstars lessons are on Mondays and students receive the next lesson on Monday afternoon. They are due each Friday. The goal is for students to increase their problem solving abilities. Math superstars may not be a grade, but I expect all students to try these problems and they MUST turn in their math superstars sheets to the folder on Fridays so I can see what they were able to complete prior to the lesson on Monday. Science Students will discover the three stages of matter and differentiate between each. Students will compare physical and chemical properties, and define volume, density, mass, and buoyancy. Thank you all for the wonderful adaptation projects. We had a great time with them! Social Studies We are continuing our study of the civil war. A Civil War project was assigned today. The written research portion of the project is due November 16th. Presentations will be the 21st and 22nd. Check your child’s homework folder for the information. Please sign and return the sheet acknowledging the project assignment. Spelling Words from different cultures from the story “Weslandia.” Test Friday! Words: Khaki Hula Banana Ballet Waltz Tomato Vanilla Canyon Yogurt Banquet Macaroni Polka Cobra Koala Barbecue Safari Buffet Stampede Karate Kiosk Challenge Words: Papaya Artichoke Sauerkraut Succotash Tsunami • JUST A REMINDER… • Picture order forms and money are due on Tuesday, October 18th. • Fall festival is Friday, October 21st from 5:00-7:00. • 5th Grade will be taking a field trip to Fort Donelson on Wednesday, October 26th. Permission slips and details were sent home. For those bringing a lunch, please remember to pack it in a disposable bag. Please be mindful of the weather and dress appropriately. • Picture retakes are on October 26th. Students will take their picture prior to loading the bus for the field trip. Students must have a note from parents if they are to participate in retakes.
