  2. Use preterite with past events • specific point in time • ayer- yesterday • anoche- last night • anteayer- the day before yesterday. • el año pasado- last year • la semana pasada- last week • el verano pasado-last summer etc.

  3. endings for –ar preterite verbs

  4. Ejemplos • Ella habló con su mamá ayer. • Yo bailé con ellos el verano pasado. • Ellos estudiaron español en México el mes pasado. • Nosotros jugamos al tenis la semana pasada.

  6. -er verbs share the same endings!

  7. ejemplos • ¿Comiste tú el almuerzo con alguien ayer? • Ella vivió en España el verano pasado. • El equipo de SunnyHills perdió el partido de fútbol americano.

  8. Conjugate the following verbs: • trabajar • volver • decidir • **no stem change in the preterite for most verbs!

  12. -gar, -zar, -car verbs • for these verbs, a spelling change is needed in the YO FORM ONLY in the preterite. • -gar (ggu) • Yo jugué al fútbol ayer. • -zar (zc) • Yo empecé mi tarea después de ver el OC. • -car (cqu) • Yo saqué una buena nota en la prueba ayer.
