  2. Irregulares del Pretérito • The irregular verbs in the preterite tense seem to follow no rules. They must be memorized. • There are some that can be treated as similar groups to remember their formation. • The only rule that applies to all is there are NO accents on the irregular verbs.

  3. Verbs like tener • tener • estar

  4. Verbs like tener • andar

  5. Verbs like decir • decir • traer

  6. Verbs like decir • conducir

  7. dar & ver

  8. Ir & Ser • Ir & Ser use the same forms in the preterite. Use context clues to determine which meaning is intended.

  9. poner & poder

  10. saber & venir

  11. querer & hacer *Note the odd spelling of this form. “Hico” sounds like Hee Ko which loses the sound of hacer.

  12. Irregulars Song • At the end of Spanish I students are introduced to a song to help memorize the irregular verbs in the preterite tense. Then they are required to memorize this song in Spanish II. The next slide has the song’s lyrics and an audio version to help you remember it (or learn it for the first time.)
