  3. Bio-Diesel • Biodiesel fuel is both renewable and can be used in a range of vehicles without a lot of alterations to the engines. • Biodiesel refers to renewable organic matter such as energy crops, wood, and animal wastes.

  4. Components • One of the main components of Biodiesel is soy beans, which is a main crop in over 400,000 farmers in 29 states

  5. Efficiency • No engine modification is needed for biodiesel • No need to change vehicles, so that cost is not necessary

  6. Pro’s • Can help eliminate global warming • Doesn’t result in much pollution

  8. History • Discovered in1853 by scientists E. Duffy and J. Patrick, • Rudolf Diesel's prime model ran on its own power for the first time in Augsburg Germany on August 10, 1893. • In remembrance of this event, August 10 has been declared "International Biodiesel Day". • Biodiesel can be used in pure form (B100) or can be blended with petroleum diesel at any concentration in most modern diesel engines.

Different Kinds of uses • The British businessman Richard Branson's Virgin Voyager train, number 220007 Thames Voyager is named the world's first "Biodiesel train" and is said it will save 14% on direct emissions. • Aircraft manufacturers are even more cautious due to the inherent risks of air travel, but a test flight has been performed by a Czech Aircraft completely powered on bio fuels. • Biodiesel can also be used as a heating fuel in domestic and commercial boilers, known as bio heat.

  10. Production • Biodiesel is made through a chemical process called transesterification whereby the glycerin is separated from the fat or vegetable oil. Why it is good for the environment • It is an excellent substitute for the environment because it is made from renewable sources and has a lower emissions rate then petroleum diesel • It is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar. • Since it can be made from soybeans it lowers the need for foreign dependence and adds to our own economy.
