  1. Submission Revisted(and possible meditations on killing sin) Galatians 6:1-4

  2. Two Types of Submission • Vertical – The authority for leadership ordained by God • Masters – Servants; Parents – Children; Husbands – Wives; Elders - Christians • Horizontal – The mutual submission of Christians to each other, especially in God-ordained relationships • Wives – Husbands; Christians - Elders

  3. How They Work • Horizontal authority is the authority of the Word • It is limited to the Word • Vertical authority is for leadership • Limited in scope of authority • Cannot conflict with Word • The pastor? • Vertical Authority as pastor under the Session • Vertical Authority personally under the Presbytery

  4. Living in Vertical Authority • Choose your authorities well • Cultivate an inclination to support your leaders • Work at encouraging good leadership • Deal with the difficulties • Defend your authority carefully • Challenge authority under authority

  5. We need authority for Gal 6:1 to work • Your sin is the greatest enemy you have • You can’t be restored if you don’t submit to spiritual people • You can’t be restored if you can’t be caught
