A ham sandwich consists of one slice of ham (10 g)

and two slices of bread (25 g each). You have 1 kg of

ham and 1 kg of bread. You make as many sandwiches

as you can. How many sandwiches did you make?

One sandwich = 50 gm of bread + 10 gm of ham

1 kg = 1000 gm/50 = 20 bread portions

1 kg = 1000 gm/10 = 100 ham portions

After 20 sandwiches, you run out of bread. 80

portions of Ham left over.

One mole of water molecules consists of 1 mole of oxygen (16 g) and 2 moles of hydrogen (1 g each). You combine 1 kg of oxygen with 1 kg of hydrogen to make water. How many moles of water did you make?

4 gm + 32 gm  36 gm

Hydrogen: 1000/4 = 250

Oxygen: 1000/32=31.25

Limit

4 x 31.25 gm + 32 x 31.25 gm

125 gm 1000 gm  1125 gm

1 mole of water = 18 grams

1125/18=62.5 moles

1000-125=875 gm Hydrogen left
