  2. The first and foremost function of any library is the dissemination of information and circulation of documents. Especially in developing countries like India lending of documents serves as a yardstick for dissemination of information and knowledge. However, it has been corroborated that the circulation of books for home reading optimizes the use of the resources of a library. Circulation of books helps to meet the information inquiries of the users of the library in their research, publication and instructional activities. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  3. V R Siddhartha Engineering College (VRSEC) is the first private engineering college in the state of Andhra Pradesh, established in the year 1977, sponsored by Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. This college has 8 under graduate and 7 Postgraduate courses in engineering, computer science and Management. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  4. VRSEC The College Library has 78,945 volumes, 142 national and international journals, DELNET, AICTE-INDEST consortium, CD-ROM databases, Internet and Intranet facilities etc. are available in this library Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  5. The problem selected for the present study is entitled “Trends And Perspectives in User Preferences Vis-à-vis Used Books: An Analytical Study of Electronics and Communication Engineering Students”, Final year students of VRSE College, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  6. To find out the number of books used by Electronics and Communication Engineering Students. • To know the authorship pattern of circulated books. • To know the chronological distribution of books used by ECEstudents; • To know the geographical distribution of used books; • To prepare the rank list of most frequently used books; • To prepare the rank list of publishers based on the used books published by them Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  7. Most of the authors would be writing books individually in Electronics and Communication Engineering discipline . • Female students go through more number of books than their counterpart male students. • All the students prefer to go through the latest edition books . • Students rely more on Indian Publications. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  8. The present study investigates the use of books borrowed by Electronics and Communication Engineering Students of Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College Library (VRSECL), Vijayawada. It is restricted to the use of books borrowed by final year students belonging to Electronics and Communication Engineering . • The present study is also limited to the data relating to borrowed books. Data pertaining to the use of textbooks and reference books consulted in different areas of the library is excluded from the scope of the present study. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  9. Selected only undergraduate students of Electronics and Communication Engineering as sample of first instance. • The total sample consists of 288 final year Electronics and Communication Engineering students and in respect of whom the researcher could obtain the books borrowing data of 265 students basing on the entries in their personal borrowing books. Out of these 265 students, 162 belong to male, while the remaining 103 to the female student category. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  10. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  11. It is evident from this table most of the male students of ECE are borrowed more number of books than the female students Each student in electronic and communication engineering used 19 books on an average during the period of his/her study. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  12. It is evident from this table most of the ECE students are borrowed 11 and 15 books during the period of his/her study. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  13. It is evident from this table most of the used books by ECE students are single authored books compared to others. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & B.R.D.Naick

  14. It is evident from this table most of the used books in ECE students (88.73% are being published during the period from 1996-2010. That means latest books are used by the students. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  15. The analysis of this table that the engineering students of ECE heavily depended on books published from India, USA and UK. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  16. It is evident from this Table most of the used books in ECE are written by Indian authors. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  17. Most of the used books by Electronics and Communication Engineering students (16.23%) are published by “Pearson Education Asia” followed by “Tata McGraw Hill Publishing Company Limited” (13.03%), “John Wiley and Sons Incorporation” (11.99%), “Prentice Hall of India Private Limited” (7.96%), and “McGraw Hill International Book Company” (6.35%). . . Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  18. The analysis of the data that 1791 titles and 5165 volumes of books were used by Electronics and Communication Engineering students during the period of their study. It is also found from the present study that the book entitled ‘Digital logic and computer design / Morris M. Mano’ was used more number of times compared to other books. It is followed by ‘Electronic devices and circuits / Jacob Millman’, ‘Electronic devices and circuits theory / Boylestad Robert’, ‘Introduction to Digital Circuits / Theodore F. Bogart’, and ‘Introduction to Digital Signal Processing / John G. Proakis’ secured 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th ranks respectively for being used by more number of students respectively. All these titles account for 17.21 percent of the total borrowing and the 50 titles mentioned in the table account for 41.88 percent of the total borrowing. Thus only a few titles have been used frequently by Electronics and Communication Engineering students. Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick

  19. As the present study is analyzed on the borrowed books by Electronics and Communication Engineering students of Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College Library (VRSECL), Vijayawada, the researcher feels that the studies of similar nature can also be carried out the borrowed books by other departments of this College Library and other well established college Libraries for more authenticity and comparative analysis before drawing valid generalizations and conclusions for optimal use of library resources by the students. Studies of analogous type can also be undertaken on the use of books by faculty members of this College Library and other well established college libraries in India Mr. A .Venkatanarayana, Dr.M.Doraswamy & Dr.B.R.D.Naick
