  3. ROSS Grant • Neighborhood Networks funded through ROSS Grant • Resident Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency • “provides funds for job training and supportive services to help residents of public housing transition from welfare to work.” • U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

  4. ROSS Grant and Uptown Alliance • Computer Labs • 18 new computers at two sites to allow free use as well as specific scheduled seminars • Holy Community Church, Uptown Alliance • Dr. Laura Harris, lead evaluator

  5. Daily Tasks • Develop flyers and brochure to advertise computer labs and seminars • Created mailing list of all MHA residents in the surrounding zip codes.

  6. Daily Tasks • Computer assistance – Internet, e-mail, word processing, etc. • Develop and implement Curriculum • Current monthly scheduled rotation • Basic Computer Skills • Resume Writing • Applying for Jobs Online

  7. Problems • Marketing • Collaboration • Participation • Problems meeting participation objectives due to recent downturn in number of MHA residents in the Uptown area.

  8. Outlook • Computers are being used at slower rate than expected • Transportation to the labs is an issue • Majority of use has been from people who are in the building for another reason
