3. Novel Reading Elective • Designed to challenge all learners to the greatest possible extent of their abilities • Students move beyond the regular reading curriculum to learn skills in: • Comprehension • Literary analysis • Critical thinking

Novel Reading Elective • Throughout the trimester, students will read and analyze two core literature novels: • The Cay • The Hatchet • During class discussions, interpretive questions are asked that lead to a thought-provoking exchange of ideas. • Since most of the work is done in class, good attendance is very important.

5. Homework • All reading will be done in class. • If you are absent, you will be required to read the chapters and complete any activities that you missed.
