  3. WHAT IS THE LGGP • In its simplest form LGG is an induction/orientation programme targeting : • New and First Year International Students. • New and First Year Domestic Students. • Parents of New and First Year Students.

  4. WHAT MAKES UP THE LGGP? Examples of programme content with an AcademicFocus: • Introduction to College Staff and the College programmes • Presentations from the Library, Learning Support, IT, and Timetabling • Report in Person • Students Services Examples of programme content with a Social Focus: • Team Building Exercises • Commencement Dinner • Evening activities • Meeting with Student Representatives • Market Day • Student Services

  13. 2009 LGGP Survey Questions *If you didn’t attend the LGGP, can you please state why? • Couldn’t afford to pay for the extra weeks accommodation or the programme itself • Extra cost and extra week off holiday where I was working/ earning money to come • Iron Maiden was playing in Auckland on the Friday! • I thought your parents had to come with you and they couldn’t so dismissed the idea of coming • I read that in previous years there had been over 1,000 students attending it, and as I am shy that put me off • Didn’t realise exactly what it was, but now wish I had attended • I went to high school in Palmy and I didn’t think I’d need to, but I kinda wish I had now – it sounded really good

What were your expectations for the LGGPand were these met? • Yes, meeting people, doing lots of fun stuff – hell yeah! • I thought we would do more Hall activities, but it was good fun • It was a bit boring, but good to make new friends before the semester started. • Learn more about schedules / timetables / classes – expectations were met • I expected more social events in the afternoon that did not cost money – like games and such • I like how I could meet other international students first • I expected it to be boring, but it turned out to be loads of fun! • It was great, could of had a few Hall events during to get closer to Hall residents

The Future of the Programme • In 2011 a LGGP of some form will be rolled out on all three Massey University Campuses. • In 2011 5% of Government funding will be tied to the success rates of students and indications are that this percentage may increase over time. • In 2011 the Government has stated that students will need to pass at least half of their enrolled programme each year to continue to be eligible to a Student Loan
