  1. There is a group of individuals who are overlooked when a small business or any size really, is looking for workers, and that is in the disability employment sector. Despite people with disabilities having been proven to be more loyal, be great at their jobs and stay longer with organizations than other workers, they are often not seen. When you consider that almost a quarter of people have some kind of disability that is a huge opportunity too many businesses are not snapping up. Here is a look at why businesses should be hiring more candidates who have disabilities.

  2. This is not just about the social side of things. Where a company should have the obligation to hire a certain percentage of the disabled. This is about the bottom line. Some companies avoid this workforce because they mistakenly think it will eat into their profit. In fact, this untapped market could be a way to increase the profit, from a small business or Social Enterprise to something much larger. If almost a quarter of people have a disability, that is a market to reach out to. What better way to do that than to have a strong workforce that includes employees who are themselves part of that market?

  3. If you have a diverse global market to reach out to, and other businesses competing with you for their attention, you should be doing everything you can to make your own business workforce just as diverse, so you can better connect. The disability employment sector is a way to reach into that market, but it also has other benefits to your business. Hiring attitudes are thankfully changing and your business should be a part of that change. Inclusivity is important to a lot of people and when business change their practice to be more accessible and inclusive that is a good thing for everyone. This is not about being charitable or giving handouts. This is about having a diverse, loyal and hard-working workforce which is good for society and for the bottom line.
